How To Cleanse Your Karma in 5 Easy Steps

tanahoy.com pay attention to karma

People need to pay attention to the workings of karma and the the influence of spiritual forces in their lives.

If you’re thinking about how to cleanse your karma, congratulations for definitely being on your way to greater spiritual growth!

I’m saying this because not everyone is aware of what karma is, or what it can do in his or her life. People just go through their motions each day, not paying attention to unseen spiritual forces that are affecting their thoughts, words, attitudes, and action.

One of the most important spiritual forces that need attention is karma. It’s a word used so frequently, and sadly, so inappropriately, it has lost its true meaning for some.

5 Steps to Having Clean Karma

I’ve already discussed what Karma is in previous posts such as What Is Karma? and What is Karma and How Does It Work?, among others.

Meanwhile, in 5 Secret Ways to Erase Heavy Karma, I gave a few ways by which to free yourself from the chains that having negative karma brings. These ways consisted of:

  • Meditation
  • Doing Humanitarian Service
  • Avoidance of Things That Could Result in Negative karma
  • Saying Mantras and Positive Affirmations, and
  • Cultivating a Spiritual Life

However, I’ve had many of my clients tell me that they would be thankful for more details about what they can easily do to clean their karma.

It’s in that spirit that I’m giving you 5 steps to enable you to do some karma cleansing on your own. If after performing these steps you still feel you need something more in terms of having a karma cleanse, you can talk to me about it during a psychic reading.

In the meantime, I hope you find the following steps for karma cleansing suitable and helpful:

1) Put your ego aside

Practice humility. Set your ego aside.

Your ego, or your sense of self-importance, is a delicate part of your being.

Many people even allow their egos to rule their life.  In effect, this makes them unable to go about their daily lives without feeling hurt at the slightest “insult,” which may be real or not.

People attach so much value to themselves in terms of acquisitions, or what material possessions they are able to own.

This way of thinking is a great piece of foolishness, because we can’t really own anything material in this life.

We came into this world with no material possessions, and when we die, we will leave the same way. That’s why there is no sense in trying to measure your self-worth by how much or how many things you have.

Having a healthy sense of self-esteem or self-importance is fine, if you don’t attach it to your material worth. Unfortunately, equating the material with your self-importance is how your ego works, which is why you need to set your ego aside, if you are to be on the way to an effective karma cleanse.

2) Be grateful

All too often, it is easier to whine and feel entitled, rather than to reflect and meditate about all the blessings the Universe has given.

This happens daily, in ways both big and small. For example, while stuck in traffic, people often curse and rant. It is very rare for them to be spare a thought to those less fortunate, such as those who don’t have cars at their disposal, or even those who have missing limbs.

You may be wondering if it’s allowable to complain about why some people seem so incompetent at following the basic rules of the road, yet still drive with great disregard for safety, as if they were untouchable “kings of the road.”

Well, of course, it’s perfectly normal to wish for competence from others, but the thing is, if it doesn’t come, then there is no point in being enraged about it.

It is not easy, but you must do what you can to find the hidden blessings in the most annoying situations. You need to cultivate a spirit of gratitude.

3) Be useful to others

The “me first!” mentality is so widespread these days. You can easily see it in the number of selfies posted in all kinds of social media.

Again, let me state that while there is nothing fundamentally wrong about self-love, it doesn’t have to reach the point where your attention is always on what you can get from others, or what they can do for you.

Being compassionate helps a lot in cleaning your karma.

We are not the Universe, so it’s important we don’t make everything about us. Instead, we should also focus on being useful to others.

Do acts of kindness and charity. Be compassionate.

Make it a point to include helping others in your daily routine.

Do these things even when it is obvious that there is nothing in it for you.

4) Be truthful

Truth is not like a flexible wire that you can bend or twist one way or the other. Truth is real. It is not a compromise of facts, or some hastily thrown in excuses.

When you are not truthful, you are doing more damage to yourself than to the others whom you are lying to, fooling, or from whom you generally withholding the truth.

More specifically, you are damaging your spirit and incurring a great deal of bad karma each time you tell an untruth.

So, you need to be truthful as much as you are able.

Admittedly, there are times when lying would seem to serve an important purpose. For example, if someone you worked with asked if the dress she was wearing made her look fat, you would be unkind if you were to say the truth bluntly that, yes, her dress makes her look fat.

So, are you to lie then, and tell her that her dress makes her look slim, even when it clearly doesn’t?

In times like this, you can tell the truth without being unkind or mean. For example, you could tell her that you liked the dress she wore the other day better (assuming this is true).

Or, you could gently tell her that her dress does give the illusion of making her look a bit heavier, but it’s not as if being so distracts from her natural beauty (assuming this is also true too).

You can always find a way to speak the truth, but in a kind manner.

To go back to what I said earlier, being truthful is not always possible. That’s why I specifically said, “you need to be truthful as much as you are able.”

This means that if your life or the life of others were at risk, it would be understandable if you did not give the whole truth. You must remember, though, that with every lie, no matter how small it may be, you incur negative karma.

So, the best thing to do as far as speaking the truth is concerned, would be to do your best to avoid situations that would require you to speak a lie.

5) Forgive

I placed this as the last step because it is the least complicated step of all.

Effective Karma Cleansing will always require you to forgive others who have wronged you, intentionally or not, and to forgive yourself as well.

Not letting forgiveness into your being is like a carrying an invisible ball and chain around. Nursing a grudge, or pampering your self-blame, can weigh you down and hurt you.

To get over all the things you need to forgive, write them all down, including your own failings that you need to let go of and forgive. Look at your list everyday and meditate upon them.

Ask for forgiveness and give forgiveness.

By doing so, you will succeed in your Karma Cleansing.
