Are Dragons Real?

One of the biggest reasons for the controversy about the existence of dragons is this still-unanswered question: “If dragons are not real, why do countries that are very far from each other all mention dragons in their traditional stories?” [image credit: s0lar1x via DeviantArt]

If I were to ask you right now: are dragons real? –  would you just shrug and say, “Of course, they are! I’ve known about Komodo dragons since I was in 4th grade!”

Or would you say, “They are! They are magical creatures that existed long ago and still do today,!”

Or would it be, “Nah, dragons are just fantasies. They’re mythological. Not real.”

People can always come up with many possible answers regarding the existence or non-existence of dragons.

Aside from unicorns, no creature has caused as much debate online, or in real life, as dragons have.

Are dragons real or not?

Dragons across Time and Space

Chinese dragons are a staple in the nation’s folklore. They are even popularly used up to the present as symbols of good luck during festivals.

One of the biggest reasons for the controversy about the existence of dragons is this still-unanswered question: “If dragons are not real, why do countries that are very far from each other (such as Italy, England, and China) mention dragons in their traditional stories?”

It’s worth taking note of the fact that in the old days, travel from one country to another did not happen as quickly as it does today. Travelling to different countries, often located in different continents, took months, if not years!

In addition, in those days, people weren’t as open to globalization as they are now.

In fact, in those days that are now misted over in history, people were downright suspicious, even hostile, towards other people who were not a part of their tribe or kind.

Keeping in mind this hostility towards others who were not part of their tribe or kind, it seems odd that something as precious as the preserved culture and history of a nation would be willingly shared with outsiders.

Why would they exchange stories about dragons?

Much of what the West knows about dragons comes from European folklore (traditional art, knowledge, literature, culture, and social practices) passed on through numerous generations.

How would the Chinese expect the Italians to understand, much less accept, the reality of dragons, if the Italians hadn’t known dragons were real before even meeting the Chinese?

So, with this new understanding, the idea that dragons could simply have been a sort of fairy tale, passed across time and space from country to country, doesn’t seem as possible in this new light of understanding.

Still, the thought that dragons are straight out of mythology continues to this day.

Dragon Spotting Around the World

Out of all the 7 continents of the world, the only continent where dragons have not been reported to be seen, even up to modern times, is Antarctica.

There’s a good list of different kinds of dragons known across the world, ranging from Australasia (Asia and Australia), to Europe, South America, North America, the Middle East, and even Africa.

Unfortunately, the list claims to categorize these wonderful beings as mythological or fictional.

Interestingly enough, nearly all the places where mythological dragons have been said to exist, are the same places where creatures identified scientifically as dragons, do exist.

The list is quite comprehensive, and out of all the 7 continents of the world, the only continent where dragons have not been reported to be seen, even up to modern times, is Antarctica.

This is to be expected, especially because of the following facts:

  1. Antarctica is massively covered in ice.
  2. Antarctica is mostly uninhabitable, although there are research stations there, and even a small town whose residents are dealing with the inhospitable environmental conditions.

Aliens in Antarctica

I believe that dragons have consciously avoided Antarctica because of the strong presence of aliens that existed there in the past. There have been many mysterious events regarding aliens that have been documented as taking place in Antarctica!

However, here’s another interesting fact, as to why dragons have never been reported as coming from, or living in Antarctica, and this fact is a scientific reality. Antarctica is the only continent without reptiles of any kind.

I find this very interesting, because in days long gone, Antarctica wasn’t the frozen landmass that it is now. Huge parts of Antarctica used to be as warm as California!

So, if the reptiles weren’t simply avoiding the frozen landmass (since Antarctica was not frozen before), what made them stay away from Antarctica?

Why have there been no stories about dragons from Antarctica, and no sightings of modern-day dragons there?

I believe it’s because of the alien-Antarctica connection.

I believe that dragons have consciously avoided Antarctica because of the strong presence of aliens that existed there in the past. There have been many mysterious events regarding aliens that have been documented as taking place in Antarctica!

But why would the dragons purposely avoid Antarctica, just because of an alien presence?

Creatures from Mythology or Creatures from Another Dimension?

The popular idea about dragons, especially the so-called “mythological” ones, is that they are fierce and scary.

For example, what many people know of dragons is that they are fire-breathers, covered in scales, have long fangs, sharp talons, and can fly huge distances.

The beliefs about dragons are why most people find them scary. Sometimes, the fear is such that they refuse to believe in the dragons. This is an understandable reaction, as far as dealing with fear is concerned.

As a defense mechanism, when fear becomes too much, people will sometimes deny what they fear, even to the point of convincing themselves that what they are afraid of doesn’t really exist.

Yet, even if the dragons of old seemed powerful and cruel, that terrible combination was not intended to make humans fear dragons.

Komodo dragons are among the dragons recognized by science.

I believe that there are essentially two kinds of dragons: the modern dragons, which are the reptiles identified by science, and the ancient dragons, which have a specific purpose regarding the human race.

In Asia, for example, dragons of ancient times were famous for bringing rain (for the crops), showing where treasures were hidden, and even granting wishes.

In Asia, dragons of ancient times were famous for bringing rain (for the crops), showing where treasures were hidden, and even granting wishes. These dragons are honored during festivals.

They were primarily protectors of the human race, and if ever they were cruel, it was simply because the occasion called for it. For example, when there was some land-grabbing being done by royalty, or when groups of thieves were attacking a town.

For the most part, their cruelty was directed against the evildoers, which makes sense, because their name itself comes from the Greek word draconta which means “to watch” (against evil).

Dragons as Guardians

Dragons are guardians. They are guardians of humans and their treasures, including the earth’s resources (minerals, plants, animals).

It is true that there have been accounts of dragons attacking humans, but it was only to defend themselves against being attacked first. These attacks by humans were motivated by their fears and ignorance about dragons.

And of course, there are stories about rogue dragons that were merciless towards humans, because of their greater power over them. But there are bad apples in every bunch!

I believe that dragons avoid Antarctica due to the alien presence there. Aliens and dragons are from different dimensions. There is bound to be some kind of misunderstanding between them, but it is not a huge misunderstanding because the aliens that have made their presence felt in Antarctica are the benign kind of aliens, just like the benign dragons.

So, there has never been a reason for dragons to watch over Antarctica, because the aliens there are not a threat, and they are already acting as guardians in Antarctica.

Consider it as a benign partnership.

The dragons, ancient or modern, and the aliens who came (and still come!) to Antarctica, are both protecting the human race in one way or the other.

They are both real.
