The Seven Chakras

The word “chakra” came from the Sanskrit word that means “wheel”. Your chakras are channels of energy located along the central axis of your body, which is your spine.

As each chakra is associated with a certain color and color therapy can help return the balance to an imbalanced chakra.

How Colors Affect Us

Do you know why colors has such a powerful effect on a person? They can either stimulate your energy or dull your senses.

The reason why certain colors influence you differently is because of their different wavelengths and frequencies and these wavelengths affect the different parts of your brain.

Muted colors are more relaxing while bright colors have an uplifting effect. Colors can even influence your moods and emotions.

They can also affect your perceptions. For example, light colors can make a small space look big and a high ceiling painted dark can make the room look more closed in.

The History of Color Therapy

The use of color to cultivate energy in the body for healing, which is also known as color therapy, traces back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, India, and China.

Robert Gerard, a scientist in the 1950’s, used an electroencephalogram (EEG), a device that detects electrical activity in the brain, to prove that colors affect the body and mind.

He was able to test and also record the reactions of the different areas of the body when different colored lights were beamed on the skin. According to his studies, the color red increased the amount of energy in the body, while blue relaxed the body.

In today’s modern times, color healing and its relation to the chakras is an area of increasing interest and research. Certain shades of color can help balance the different chakras, along with  the physical emotional systems associated with them.
